OBTAINING A LICENSE
MSU will grant non-exclusive licenses to those companies or organizations that meet all requirements and whose products and artwork are judged to be of high quality and appropriate to the University.
APPLICATION
The first step in obtaining a license is to submit a completed application form, the application fee, and a prototype sample product. The product sample and proposed artwork should not carry MSU trademarks at this stage.

LICENSE EXECUTION
If the application and product sample are approved, contracts will be issued to the candidate licensee. Final execution of the contract requires
- Two (2) signed and complete originals
- The annual advance payment for the first Contract Year
- A certificate of insurance from a qualified agent in the required form and amounts naming “Michigan State University, its Board of Trustees, employees, agents, and officers” as additional insureds
PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
Upon receiving its fully executed contract, a licensee is provided a User Name and PIN Number for access to university artwork maintained on www.graphics.msu.edu.
Review phases include:
- Artwork submission electronically to licensing@union.msu.edu
- University comment/approval
- Final Michigan State sample submission to University Licensing Programs office
- University comment/approval
